to Doomsday

A comic-style MCU catch-up for people who do not have time to rewatch everything. One chapter at a time. Only the plot connections that matter.

8 story chapters Movies named as you go No quiz Ends at Encore
Your mission: follow the chain from the Infinity Stones to the multiverse crisis, then go into Endgame: Encore knowing exactly what to watch for.
Issue 01 • The Stones

Six objects quietly run the first saga.

Movies that tell this part
The Avengers Avengers: Age of Ultron Doctor Strange Captain Marvel Avengers: Infinity War

The early MCU keeps introducing objects of enormous power. Eventually we learn they are the six Infinity Stones.

Space Stone
The Tesseract. Connected to Loki, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain Marvel.
Mind Stone
Loki's scepter, then Vision.
Time Stone
Protected by Doctor Strange.
Reality • Power • Soul
The remaining pieces Thanos needs.
Why it matters: the Stones are not the Doomsday problem. Trying to undo what Thanos does with them is what pushes the Avengers into time travel.
Issue 02 • The Snap

Thanos wins.

Movies that tell this part
Avengers: Infinity War Avengers: Endgame

Thanos collects all six Infinity Stones and erases half of all life. Peter, Sam, Bucky, Strange and many others disappear.

Doctor Strange
Sees 14,000,605 possible futures and only one path to victory.
Vision
Thanos takes the Mind Stone from him.
The Avengers
They lose.
The bigger problem
Thanos later destroys the Stones in the present.
Why it matters: no Snap means no desperate Time Heist. No Time Heist means no escaped Loki variant.
Issue 03 • The Bridge

Endgame changes the rules.

Movies that tell this part
Avengers: Endgame Avengers: Endgame — Encore

The surviving Avengers travel into earlier MCU events to borrow the Infinity Stones from the past.

2012 New York
The team revisits the first Avengers battle.
The mistake
Loki gets the Tesseract and escapes.
The warning
The Ancient One explains the danger of creating alternate branches.
The ending
Tony dies. Steve returns the Stones, chooses Peggy, then gives Sam the shield.
STONES TIME HEIST BRANCHES
Why it matters: this is the hinge between the Infinity Saga and the Multiverse Saga.
Issue 04 • The TVA

Loki shows us what reality really looks like.

Shows that tell this part
Loki — Season 1 Loki — Season 2

The Loki who escaped during Endgame is arrested by the TVA. Through him, we learn about variants, branching timelines and the organization trying to manage them.

Variant
A different version of a person.
Branch
A timeline that diverges from another path.
TVA
The organization managing unstable timelines.
Loki
By Season 2, he becomes central to holding branching timelines together.
Why it matters: the MCU is no longer one straight timeline. It is a web of realities.
Issue 05 • The Walls Break

First people cross universes. Then worlds become unstable.

Movies that tell this part
Spider-Man: No Way Home Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

No Way Home proves people from completely different universes can physically occupy the same reality.

Multiverse of Madness goes further and introduces the word you really need to know:

INCURSION A catastrophic collision involving universes. Interference between realities can destabilize them and potentially destroy one or both.
Why it matters: Doomsday is not just “a villain attacks Earth.” Whole realities can collide.
Issue 06 • Meanwhile on Earth

Who are the Avengers now?

Movies and shows that tell this part
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Captain America: Brave New World Thunderbolts*

While the multiverse is becoming unstable, the original Avengers are gone or scattered. Sam Wilson becomes Captain America. Bucky remains active. A new Avengers-era team takes shape.

Sam Wilson
The current Captain America.
Bucky Barnes
Still active and connected to the new hero landscape.
Thunderbolts*
Builds the New Avengers-era team.
The question
Who is left to defend the main MCU Earth?
Why it matters: these projects do not explain the multiverse. They explain who is standing there when the crisis arrives.
Issue 07 • Other Worlds

X-Men and Fantastic Four enter the board.

Movies that tell this part
The Marvels Deadpool & Wolverine The Fantastic Four: First Steps

The Marvels leaves Monica Rambeau in another reality where she encounters Beast. Deadpool & Wolverine brings the TVA, alternate realities and Fox-era Marvel history into the multiverse story.

Then The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben in a universe separate from the main Avengers world.

Main MCU world
Sam, Bucky, Thor and the current Avengers-era heroes.
X-Men-related world
Legacy mutant characters are now part of the multiverse board.
Fantastic Four world
Reed Richards and his family live in another universe.
The setup
Multiple complete hero worlds can now interact.
Why it matters: Doomsday now has multiple universes full of heroes that can collide.
Issue 08 • The Convergence

Everything points to Doomsday.
